Yes, I know it’s almost end of March, but I finally got around the finish editing the various clips together from the Xmas crawl at Bracken Rocks (2015). If you’re not aware Bracken Rocks is where the RRCI Scale Nationals (now known as RCCarZone Scale Nationals) is hosted, and the first G6 competition is to be hosted here. It’s a great area for crawling, I would recommend anyone into crawling and scale rigs to attend the scale nationals, weekend of banter and driving.

Another Sunday so headed out early 7.30am just as the sun was coming out, light rain but nothing to bad. Went to some land nearby as we had not crawled there in a while. Was going well until I heard a branch breaking, turned out it wasn’t a branch and instead my drive shaft link to the rear wheels broke.
Got to order a new part now “vtr232072”, seems quite expensive for such a small part. Also noticed some of my tyres are letting water in and one seems to have lost all air and is flat. More work to get this thing ready for the G16 national event next year.
This was a test of a friend’s homemade servo winch to see how well it would coupe with a vertical deadweight lift, it did really well and lifted itself all the way up to the hook. Got a bit warm but no burning smells or fires, very impressed.
This was a converted high torque steering servo, with the rope attached directly to the servo motor spindle and using a simple on / off / on switch to control the power to the DC motor for both in and out direction. Hope you enjoy the video.
Took the Land Rover D90 using a Vattera Ascender chassie out for a crawl last week, unfortunately there was an accident and the D90 took a bit of damage. I am now debating starting again and getting another D90 shell. Anyways hope you enjoy the video it was a good day and I would recommend going to Twywell Hills and Dales Country Park if you are in Northamptonshire area and want to go for a crawl, or looking for a new crawling area.
Been browsing eBay and found some awsum looking items from a seller called “DJ Designs”, email him enquirying he provided me with a link to his website. Got some awsum stuff for D90 trucks as well as other trucks and scale items. I will be placing a order very shortly for the project.
I connect a UPS to a generator allowing me to safely power my sensitive electronic equipment (laptops) when in remote locations, generators are not perfect and occasionally the power fluxuates causing spikes, over and under voltage issues. To resolve these issues and make it safer for my sensitive devices I use a UPS which provides a cleaner and more reliable energy supply. When a under voltage occurs the UPS boosts the power using the battery, when this happens (which is often) the UPS beeps for an extended period (indicating it is using the battery, which I don’t really need to know as it’s only for a couple of seconds normally).
I have always been into RC vehicles and I am lucky to have Northants RC right on my door step. Its a RC club dedicated to the members with the intention of providing a safe and friendly environment to partake in this sport. The club and land are in development but we already have a challenging track suitable for a range of off-road vehicles. (more…)
